DOT & Trucking · Switching consortiums

Leaving your current TPA? Ask them for these.

Switching consortiums is a few days' work. Most of it is getting six things from the company you're leaving, in writing.

1. Your random-pool exit date.

Ask them to confirm, in writing, the date your drivers come out of their pool. We put your drivers in ours for the next quarterly selection, so the two dates line up and nobody's uncovered.

2. Random selection records for this year.

Every selection they ran for your fleet — dates, who was picked, drug or alcohol. We use the count to plan the rest of the year so your fleet ends it at the required rate: 50% of drivers tested for drugs, 10% for alcohol. Without it, we're guessing at how many selections you still owe.

3. Each driver's test history.

Pre-employment negatives on file, random results, anything else they hold. You'll need the pre-employment result for every driver. You keep it, or send it to us and we keep it.

4. Anything still open.

Results pending MRO review, a driver mid-SAP, a Clearinghouse violation not yet reported. Get a list before you leave so nothing falls between the two companies.

5. Every driver in a follow-up testing plan.

For each one: the SAP's follow-up letter, and how many of the required tests have already been done. The plan doesn't reset when you switch — we pick up the count where they left it, but only if we have the letter and the number.

6. Their name off your Clearinghouse account.

They're likely designated as your C/TPA in the FMCSA Clearinghouse. Remove them and designate TrueTest. We'll walk you through it. Until it's done, violation reporting has no one behind it.

Before you go

Then check your agreement for a notice period or an annual fee you've already paid — some TPAs prorate, most don't.

If they won't give you any of it, call us — that's usually the whole reason people switch.
