TrueTest Labs was founded in 2010 by Michael Gammel, who came to the testing industry from a career in finance — not as a lab technician or healthcare executive, but as a business operator who saw an industry full of providers trying to do everything and doing very little of it well.

The premise was simple: focus on a defined set of services and execute them at a level the large national providers couldn't match. That focus has guided every decision since — from which tests we offer to which clients we take on and how we support them after results are reported.

Today, TrueTest Labs serves clients in Chicago and surrounding suburbs from our office in Elk Grove Village, Illinois, with a service portfolio built around DOT drug and alcohol testing, family court forensic testing, mobile collection, and DNA testing.

In our DOT practice, we operate as a third-party administrator for employers subject to federal testing regulations — managing consortium enrollment, random selection, compliance recordkeeping, and the ongoing guidance that keeps small and mid-size fleets audit-ready. In family court, we provide forensic drug and alcohol testing for attorneys, judges, and guardians ad litem involved in custody, divorce, and child welfare proceedings. In both areas, testing is only half of what we deliver. The other half is expert advisory — helping clients understand what results prove, what they don't, and what steps to take next. That advisory layer is built into every engagement, not sold as an add-on.
